American Sign Language 1 introduces you to the fundamentals of ASL which include handshapes, facial expressions, vocabulary, syntax, semantics, and common phrases in signed conversations. These topics are taught within the context of bettering our understanding of the Deaf and hard of hearing communities and culture. $189 (Cost is subject to change).

What is HACC’s American Sign Language 2 course like? 

 

A continuation of ASL 1, this highly interactive class meets in person with live, instructor-led lessons and lots of opportunities for practice.

This semester-long, open lab course allows participants to utilize HACC’s Art studio to develop their craft through hand-building, sculpting, or wheel-throwing. Participation in demonstration sessions may also be available. Prerequisites: Designed for experienced artists, completion of ART 151 or the equivalent and a studio safety orientation conducted by Art Department Coordinator is required. Course fee: $200

 

What is HACC’s Ceramics Open Studio class like? 

 

Creative work is done independently through the non-instructional, supervised shared use of the ceramic’s studio. Participants will receive access to HACC equipment, kilns, and glazes. Clay (cone 10) and hand tools must be purchased separately. Faculty, staff, or lab monitors are available for orientation purposes only.

Or are you preparing to travel to a Spanish-speaking country and want to feel more comfortable in everyday interactions? Start learning this popular language with Conversational Spanish at YOUR community college, HACC!

 

What is HACC’s Conversational Spanish course like?

 

This course is designed for those with little to no Spanish language experience and
provides an introduction to commonly used essential phrases, vocabulary,
and a few beginner level grammar concepts. Highly interactive, scenario-based lessons will 
will be taught and practiced through a variety of pronunciation exercises, dialogue practice, 
and dictation.

Everyone has a story to tell, and creative nonfiction writing gives us the tools to get started. This 8-week workshop guided by Harrisburg Poet Laureate, Rick Kearns, will cover the basics of memoir writing and creative journalism with an emphasis on revision, editing, and publishing. By the end of the course, students will produce a rough draft of a memoir and an article. 

 

What is HACC’s Creative Nonfiction Writing: Memoirs & Journalism class like? 


Within a friendly, informal classroom setting, students will analyze nonfiction concepts and examples, discuss writing structure and format, develop writing topics, compose, revise and edit rough drafts, and review publishing options.
