  1. Apply to HACC and meet with a Dental Hygiene or Health Careers advisor before applications begin.
    • Admission to HACC does not guarantee admission to the clinical program. Work closely with your advisor to prepare to apply to the clinical/core component 
  2. Take the TEAS test in-person and achieve a minimum score of 72. Only Version 7 test results will be accepted. Minimum TEAS required to apply does not guarantee clinical admission.

    • Three attempts in an application cycle will be permitted. Application cycle is defined as the close of the prior year's applications (April 15, 2024) to the application deadline.
    • In-person scores are acceptable for three years. Remote scores from prior years will not be considered.
    • Highest score at the time of application will be evaluated.
    • All TEAS testing must be completed in-person on a HACC campus.
  4. Attend a 60-minute Mandatory Information Session within the same academic year of your application.   5. Shadow a Dental Hygienist and verify with the Dental Hygienist Shadowing Form (pdf) or verify 300 hours of employment as a Clinical Dental Assistant with the Verification of Clinical Dental Assisting Hours Form (pdf). Completed forms must be sent to DentalHygiene@hacc.edu prior to application. Applications with missing forms will not be considered.
  6. Send High School Transcripts, Prior College Transcripts, and/or Technical School transcripts to HACC.
  7. Prior college and technical school transcripts must be sent to record@hacc.edu Prepare for Pre-Clinical Courses (BIOL 121, BIOL 221, ENGL 101, and MATH 055/091 placement testing or higher)
    • For assistance, please visit your Academic Advisor. Pre-clinical courses must be scheduled for completion Fall 2025 or earlier, and may be used for up to 7 years prior application. Courses taken 2018 or earlier will not be considered. Courses must be completed with a grade ‘C’ or higher.

  • You may send supplemental certifications and documents to DentalHygiene@hacc.edu. Documents not listed on the Admission Criteria will not be considered—including diplomas, non-DANB certificates, or information that is to be sent to HACC upon registration (such as high school transcripts.)

 

 

What does a dental hygienist do?

A dental hygienist is qualified by education and licensure to provide:

  • Patient assessment - including reviewing health history, recording vital signs, radiographic examination, and charting
  • Treatment planning
  • Patient education
  • Administration of local anesthesia
  • Removal of deposits and stains from teeth
  • Placement of sealants

What degree will I earn? Will I be eligible for credentials?

Upon successful completion, you will:

  • earn a Dental Hygiene Associate in Science degree
  • be eligible to sit for licensing exams to become a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)
