HACC’s Film and Theatre program presents Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama Angels in America: Millennium Approaches, A Gay Fantasia on National Themes. Widely regarded as one of the most significant American plays of the modern era, Angels in America is a sociopolitical work that challenges audiences to examine how belief systems often marginalize human connections by impeding our empathy and compassion towards individuals.

Set in 1985, the play explores the profound impact of the AIDS crisis, drawing a parallel to the ongoing symbolic struggle between American ideologies. Epic in scope, it is raw in its unapologetic portrayal of characters and use of language while tackling themes of politics, religion, homophobia, sexual identity, gender, the AIDS epidemic, racism, identity, mental illness, corruption, and sexual harassment. Blending historical facts with a narrative tapestry that serves to provoke the audience, the action moves between realism and surrealism while exploring ethics that are equally as relevant today.

CONTENT ADVISORY: This play contains mature language, racial and ableist slurs, explicit sexual situations, full male nudity, drug use, mental illness, and depictions of violence, illness and death.

Age restriction: 18 and older

Angels in America is a three act play with two intermissions.
